Women's Experiences in the South Sudan Peace Process 2013-2018

This brief captures the key findings from a roundtable discussion in Nairobi, Kenya in December 2018, which gathered South Sudanese women leaders that were directly involved in the long-running peace process from 2013 to 2018 to share experiences and lessons learned.

South Sudanese women's groups and representatives made a substantial contribution to the country's peace process, and their efforts throughout the negotiations have resulted in numerous achievements. Still, insufficient attention has been paid to the roles that women leaders played in the process.

The brief and annexed fact sheet present insights on the strategies used, achievements and challenges faced relating to women’s meaningful participation in the South Sudanese peace process.

The roundtable was co-organized by the National Transformational Leadership Institute (NTLI), Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA).
