Latin America and disarmament of ex-combatants
Stefan Åström is specialist on disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatant. He is especially focused on the peace processes in Colombia, Myanmar, Ukraine, the Philippines and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Stefan has several years of experience of working in South America, for example as a military observer in Guatemala, for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Venezuela and for the Organization of American States in Colombia. He speaks fluent Spanish and holds a master’s degree in international humanitarian law. In addition, he is a reserve officer within the Swedish Armed Forces.
