FBA launches new international research working groups

FBA welcomes 23 researchers as members of the agency's international research working groups for the period 2025–2029, thereby deepening its work on integrating research for peace, security, and development.

FBA systematically works on research integration by engaging external researchers with thematic and geographical expertise relevant to the agency's operations. In the spring of 2025, FBA decided to establish additional research working groups to meet the need for knowledge in the following areas:

  • EU
  • NATO
  • Hybrid threats, including disinformation
  • Support for free and fair elections
  • Protection of civilians and conflict-related sexual violence
  • Gender-equal peace processes

Youth in peace and security processes has now selected 23 internationally recognized researchers for the new groups through open competition.

"All 214 applicants from around the world have undergone a systematic selection process where we jointly, within the agency, have assessed both the researchers' scientific merits and their experience of collaborating with practitioners in peace, security, and development", says FBA's Head of Research Johanna Malm.

The members of FBA's research workgroups consult the agency in various thematic and geographical areas based on their scientific expertise. The members are also offered the opportunity to develop their research through exchanges with FBA's experts and the possibility to apply for research grants from FBA.

"We now look forward to further developing the work with all our research workgroups and getting to know the new members", says Johanna Malm.
