Call for members to new International Research Working Groups
Participating in FBA’s International Research Working Groups offers a unique opportunity for researchers to contribute to the work for peace, security, and development. The thematic scope is now expanding with five new groups, inviting interested scholars from around the world to apply.FBA currently hosts 22 International Research Working Groups, consisting of researchers with diverse thematic and geographical expertise relevant to FBA’s work. These groups play a vital role in the agency’s evidence-based approach by providing expert advice grounded in research.
As the international landscape changes, FBA’s mandate and areas of operation continue to evolve. To strengthen the agency’s expertise and ensure a close connection with the academic community, FBA is now launching an additional call for researchers. The five new Research Working Groups will focus on:
- The European Union
- NATO
- Hybrid Threats, Including Disinformation
- Support to Free and Fair Elections
- Protection of Civilians and Conflict-Related Sexual Violence
The call for applications also includes an expansion of two of the existing Research Working Groups:
- Women, Peace and Security (Extension of Existing Group): Gender-Equal Peace Processes
- Youth, Peace and Security (Extension of Existing Group): Youth in Peace and Security Processes
FBA welcomes researchers from around the world to apply and thereby contribute to policy and practice within peace, security, and development.
What’s Offered?
The membership in the International Research Working Groups is for a four-year period, starting August 1, 2025. While the position is voluntary-based and thus not remunerated, members have the opportunity to apply for FBA’s Research Grants, i.e. research funding for policy-relevant research projects, awarded annually through a competitive process. They are also eligible to undertake consultancy assignments, which may include tasks such as writing a report, participating in a full-day seminar, or similar activities.
Sukanya Podder, a current member of the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Research Working Groups, highlights the value of membership:
"It provides a unique opportunity to work with, advise, and exchange knowledge, to produce practical and often cross-cutting outputs for advancing the field of YPS and beyond. The funding opportunities that come with the membership is also a welcome benefit."
