Handbook launch at Europe’s largest annual human rights and democracy conference

The FBA and the OSCE Office for Democracy and Human Rights (ODHIR) are co-organizing a rule of law side-event on 2 October 2013. The event is part of the OSCE’s Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) in Warsaw – Europe’s largest annual human rights and democracy conference.

The event is intended to officially launch the unique Handbook for Monitoring Administrative Justice, a practical tool jointly developed by the FBA and ODHIR, which provides an overview of main fair trial rights and information on trial monitoring in administrative justice.

Participants at the launch will include the ODIHR Rule of Law Unit, FBA’s Rule of Law Programme, Council of Europe, NGOs, members of civil society engaged in trial monitoring, representatives of OSCE field operations, participating states and international organizations.

The handbook will soon be available in English and Russian on the FBA’s website.

Why does the international community so often hesitate to act, despite both moral and legal obligations? The Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) and the International State Crime Initiative (ISCI) brought together researchers and experts for a dialogue on genocide, drawing on historical and contemporary lessons, in light of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza over the past two years.
