In collaboration with ACCORD, FBA presents a new series of research briefs highlighting different aspects of mediation.
The report summarizes the findings of the International Expert Forum (IEF) on mitigating the consequences of violent conflict.
The discussions during the workshop addressed the challenges related to organized violence based on current data and trends, the evolving role for UN peacekeeping in the light of these developments, and the role of special envoys. The workshop brought together top level quantitative and qualitative researchers to discuss recent insights with policy makers and practitioners. In addition to identifying lessons learned and policy implications for enhancing peacekeeping efficacy, the report also raises questions for further research so that key policy priorities can be informed by a richer evidence base.
The IEF is a collaborative initiative of the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), the International Peace Institute (IPI), the SecDev Group, and the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF). The IEF provides an informal venue for exchanges between diverse constituencies working to prevent and reduce organized violence and promote lasting peace. It is designed to allow for the sharing of empirical analysis and applied practical experience on conflict prevention, preventive diplomacy, peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding.
