The agency consists of six departments:

The FBA is led by a Director-General. Sven-Eric Söder was appointed Director-General of the agency in 2012 and continues in that post.
He is supported by a directorate and a government-appointed advisory council.
The directorate is involved in the planning, implementation and follow-up of the day-to-day work of the agency. The directorate also deals with issues of a strategic nature concerning the agency.
Apart from the Director-General, the directorate consists of:
Johanna Gårdmark, Head of the Department for Peace Operations
Markus Derblom, Head of the Department for Conflict Prevention
Helena Vazquez Sohlström, Head of the Department for Governance
Magdalena Tham Lindell, Head of the Department for International Development Cooperation
Helén Jarlsvik, Head of the Department for Management Support
Henrik Mungenast, Head of the Department for Operational Support

The advisory council is the highest advisory body of the agency. Members of the council are appointed by the Swedish government and sessions are held four times per year. The Director-General keeps the council informed about the work of FBA and is chairman of the council.
