Research–Practitioner Dialogue: A Changing Security Landscape

Join us for a full-day Research–Practitioner Dialogue on the implications of a changing security landscape for policy and practice. Bringing together researchers and practitioners from across Team Sweden, the dialogue provides a forum for evidence-based exchange on emerging trends in international politics and their operational relevance.

Date & Time: 16 March 2026 | 09.00–17.00

Location: Lejonskjöldska, Swedish Defence University, Drottning Kristinas väg 37, Stockholm

Online participation available

Background

In a rapidly evolving global security landscape, FBA has identified new opportunities to deepen Team Sweden’s understanding of emerging trends in international politics and their operational implications.

In particular, there is a need for policy-relevant, evidence-based guidance on key tredns related to phenomena such as security, defence, hybrid threats, resilience, and deterrence.

As geopolitical fragmentation intensifies, democratic processes face increased pressure, and institutional cooperation evolves, FBA seeks to better understand how these developments affect its mandate and practical engagement.

Purpose of the Dialogue

FBA convenes members of its International Research Working Groups on:

  • Hybrid Threats and Disinformation

  • Support to Free and Fair Elections

  • NATO

  • EU

Together with colleagues from FBA, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Sida, participants will engage in a structured round-table dialogue.

The dialogue has four main objectives:

  1. To clarify concepts and identify operationally relevant guidance for FBA’s continued evidence-based work in relation to methods, goals, and priorities.

  2. To understand current and emerging trends that impact FBA's work and partner countries.

  3. To identify potential research-anchored policy recommendations relevant for Team Sweden.

  4. To define priority areas for deeper collaboration between researchers and practitioners.

This is a round-table exchange designed to facilitate knowledge-sharing across institutional and disciplinary boundaries.

Format

The day is organised as moderated thematic sessions with facilitated discussions around the table in the room together with select online participants.

Each session will focus on a defined theme and depart from guiding questions linked to FBA’s practical work and current global developments, with it's unique dialogue setup.

Participants are encouraged to engage actively in discussion and to contribute reflections grounded in their respective areas of expertise.
