2026 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development

The theme of the 2026 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development is From Rupture to Repair: New Visions for Peace and Development. FBA is a co-convenor, contributing expertise, partnerships and practical experience from peace and security work in conflict-affected settings.

Participation in the Forum is by invitation only. The opening and closing plenaries will be live-streamed and are open to everyone online.

From rupture to ways forward

The global security architecture is under severe pressure. Conflicts are becoming more complex, multilateral cooperation is being challenged and trust between states and societies is declining. At the same time, many of today’s security challenges require cooperation across borders and between different parts of society.

The 2026 Stockholm Forum will move beyond descriptions of crisis and gridlock. It will focus on new ideas, practical solutions and forms of cooperation that can contribute to peace, security and development. The Forum will highlight the importance of genuine partnerships, locally driven solutions and a willingness to learn from past experience.

FBA's contribution to the Forum

As security challenges change, the ways we work for peace and security must evolve too. FBA contributes operationally, substantively and financially to the Forum.

Together with Swedish and international partners, FBA is organising eight sessions and leading the closing plenary.

FBA’s sessions will address topics including:

• Changing security systems, mediation and peacebuilding

• Reintegration, recovery and local ownership, with a particular focus on Ukraine

• AI, democracy and the future of peacebuilding

The Forum connects international experience and perspectives with FBA’s operational work, partnerships and expertise. The discussions will contribute to learning and to the development of relevant, long-term responses to today’s peace and security challenges.

FBA will lead the closing plenary, which will bring together key questions and insights from across the Forum and look ahead to possible paths from rupture to repair.

Young experts contributing to the Forum 

The Stockholm Forum is committed to strengthening youth participation as an essential part of sustainable peacebuilding.

FBA and SIPRI have jointly established a Youth Advisory Board comprising young experts and practitioners from different parts of the world.

Board members will help shape the Forum’s agenda and sessions and contribute throughout the event, ensuring that young people’s knowledge and perspectives inform its discussions and outcomes.

The Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development is an international platform for dialogue between policy, research and practice. It brings together actors from the development, humanitarian, peacebuilding and security fields to exchange knowledge, discuss challenges and develop practical ways forward.

The 2026 Stockholm Forum is hosted by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), and co-convened with FBA and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). It will take place at Münchenbryggeriet in Stockholm.
