Mapping of Veteran Reintegration Challenges and Opportunities in Ukraine
Since FBA is mandated to promote and increase the ability of national, regional, and local actors and communities to sustainably reintegrate former combatants in Ukraine, FBA contracted the Sociological Agency Fama (Fama) and Transition International (TI) to conduct this reintegration of veterans mapping in selected areas in order to gather information that contributes to the development of community-based reintegration (CBR) strategies.
Such strategies should aim to reduce “one-size-fits-all” and “top-down” approaches to reintegration and promote comprehensive community-driven process. It should also allow the project to better adjust its trainings to identified needs of national and local actors mandated to implement such strategies. The mapping builds upon earlier work of FBA project in Ukraine, related to the issues of veterans, which included activities on promoting community-based reintegration of veterans that comprised DDR and veteran reintegration training program, regional presentations, dissemination of the Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration Standards (IDDRS), pilot dialogues with veterans, veteran organizations (local activists) and representatives of local authorities.
