“Our efforts were seen as immaterial, but are now something we hold on to”

Since 2014, FBA strengthens Ukrainian local authorities’ capacity to deliver services to citizens in accordance with rule of law principles. New activities have now been initiated to face challenges following the Russian invasion and to safeguard previous progress. Carl Fredrik Birkoff is project manager for FBA’s work with the Swedish development cooperation strategy for Eastern Europe and Julia Sedyk has coordinated the activities from FBA’s project office in Kyiv since the beginning.

Gender Assessment of the 2021 Electoral Process in Puntland

On October 25, 2021, Puntland became the first federal member state in Somalia to hold democratic elections to district councils. “One person one vote” elections were conducted in three “early districts” of Eyl, Ufeyn and Qardho. In addition to their historic significance, these elections offer an important opportunity to learn lessons, not least when it comes to the promotion of gender equality and the political participation of women.
