Sweden’s 70 years as a member of the UN in three minutes
The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs is now launching a film about Sweden’s 70 years as a member of the UN. The film highlights several Swedes that have played important roles in the UN throughout the years, among them Folke Bernadotte, after whom the FBA (Folke Bernadotte Academy) is named.The film also highlights political and diplomatic leaders such as Dag Hammarskjöld, Alva Myrdal, Olof Palme, Margot Wallström, Hans Blix and Jan Eliasson.
Sweden became a UN member state in 1946 and the Swedish support for the UN has been strong ever since. Sweden is one of the largest financial contributors to the UN, and 80,000 Swedes have served in UN peacekeeping missions through the years.
