Why did you apply for the FBA’s Gender Adviser Course?
– I found the course on the Internet. I had heard of the FBA before, so I applied. This is my first time in Sweden, it is very nice!

What do you wish to learn during the course?
– I have been working as a Gender Adviser for ten years. This adds to my knowledge and experience. Hopefully, I will be even better at my job when I get back.

What do you do at your job, really?
– I help the UNAMID to gender-mainstream all activities. I also want to help my entire community, by fighting early marriage and female genital mutilation. And I am involved in a project that seeks to create jobs for women, so that they can support themselves. But I do encounter resistance from local leaders. I just try to accept it.

Ruqia Qudos from Afghanistan is one of this year’s recipients of the 2024 scholarship in support of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security. The scholarship, established in memory of Zaida Catalán, enables her to spend a year with the human rights organization and research think tank Bytes for All, based in Pakistan.
